Theory Audio Design launches controller for distributed audio

Theory Audio Design has introduced the DLC-250.4 distribution loudspeaker controller, a flexible and powerful half-rack amplifier/controller solutions for distributed audio applications.

Ideal for both residential and commercial distributed audio installations, each DLC-250.4 offers 4-channels of intelligent power, a full DSP matrix, and is TCP/IP controlled through a wired connection, or directly via its on-board Wi-Fi access point.

Designed to be at the centre of every Theory distributed audio system, the DLC-250.4 features channel-pair power sharing of up to 250W, offering the flexibility to power any size system. Via its configurable outputs, the controller can power up to 16 Theory 16-ohm ceiling or pendant loudspeakers in Lo-Z mode, and up to 64 Theory architectural speakers in Hi-Z mode. It can also cater to an optimal hybrid of both or in any quantity in between, particularly useful for commercial applications.

For home cinema and surround sound systems, a single DLC-250.4 is ideal for 3.1 systems, and larger if using multiple DLCs.

“Because the DLC can operate in both 8-ohm or 70V/100V modes, separately or in combination, and because all of our architectural loudspeakers have the same dual operation, systems of any size or complexity can easily be realised from a tiny half-rack space unit,” said Paul Hales, president of Theory Audio Design.

“And because our ceiling and pendant models can operate at 16-ohms, up to 16 speakers can be powered from a single half-rack unit without the need to invoke the 70V transformers; this is remarkable form a 6-pound amplifier and ensures the highest possible fidelity even in systems with a high quantity of speakers.”

Theory offers two complementary accessory kits to allow the DLC-250.4 to be rack mounted or wall/surface mounted.

The DLC-250.4 is safety and EMC certified and compliant to ErP and EnergySTAR. A Dante-enabled version of the controller, the DLC-250.4d, will be launched later this year which will offer even further installation flexibility and simplicity by adding Dante network audio and AES67 compatibility.
