Amazon Echo devices launch in France (with Spain and Italy to follow)

After launching in the UK and Germany over a year ago, Amazon has announced that certain devices from its Echo line up will be coming to France very soon.

People in France and Monaco will soon be able to add the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Spot to their basket on Amazon (and for an introductory half price offer), following their launch ahead of a June 13 release (for Prime members).

Speaking on why only now Alexa can parlez Francais, Jorrit Van der Meulen, VP at Amazon, said: "We've built an entirely new experience from the ground up that honours the French language and culture, allowing customers to just ask to get music, weather, news, information, and more."

Although Amazon have clearly been busy instilling all things French into Alexa, for now, only the three aforementioned products will be available, with no word on why or if the Echo Show or Echo Plus will or won’t be coming to France soon.

Of course, Amazon is in the backseat when it comes to voice control offerings available in France as Google Assistant and Microsoft Cortana products have been available for a while. To try and tackle this and kickstart sales, Amazon is offering the Echo Dot for €30, the Echo at €50 and Echo Spot for €65 – all priced at half the suggested RRP set by the retailer.

UPDATE: Amazon has since revealed that Echo will be released in Italy and Spain later this year too.
