Barco will acquire the premium audio brands Focal and Naim as part of a deal to purchase their parent company VerVent Audio Holding.
The Belgian AV technology manufacturer announced the planned acquisition on March 9, positioning the move as a strategic step toward delivering fully integrated AV systems that combine high-end visualisation with premium audio.
Focal and Naim are globally recognised names in high-end audio. Their portfolios span audiophile loudspeakers, immersive audio systems, studio monitors, headphones and electronics, as well as OEM audio solutions for automotive and marine applications. In recent years the brands have also expanded into custom installation and home theatre markets.
Barco said bringing the brands into its portfolio will strengthen its position in immersive entertainment environments across professional AV, cinema, and high-end residential applications.
An Steegen, CEO of Barco, said: “Today marks an important step in Barco’s ambition to shape the future of immersive audiovisual experiences. By welcoming VerVent and its iconic Focal and Naim brands into the Barco family, we accelerate our strategy to deliver fully integrated solutions where image and sound reinforce each other seamlessly.”
She added that the acquisition aligns with the company’s strategy to deepen its presence in entertainment markets while building on its leadership in visualisation technologies.
Headquartered in Saint-Étienne, France, VerVent, the group behind Focal and Naim, generates annual revenues of around €110 million. Its products are sold through a global retail and distribution network that includes more than 80 branded boutiques alongside thousands of sales points worldwide.
Barco said the premium audio market, encompassing audiophile consumer systems and high-end home cinema, is estimated to exceed €3 billion globally. Growth is being driven by trends including immersive sound formats, active loudspeakers, connected audio systems, and direct-to-consumer sales models.
Under the terms of the agreement, Barco will acquire 100% of VerVent’s shares for an enterprise value of approximately €135 million. The transaction will be financed using Barco’s own funds and remains subject to consultation with employee representative bodies and customary closing conditions.
Following completion, VerVent will be integrated into Barco’s Entertainment division. The company said it intends to continue developing the Focal and Naim brands while advancing their product roadmaps toward digital, active and connected audio systems.
