Philips intros 903 OLED TV with built-in B&W soundbar

Philips has announced fruits of its collaboration with Bowers & Wilkins: a 65-in OLED TV with an integrated soundbar called the OLED903.

In a bid to rival significant market share in the OLED market, Philips has prioritised bolstering the audio performance of its TVs thanks to its partnership with Bowers & Wilkins announced in June.

The Philips OLED903 TV is the first offering the manufacturer has introduced following the partnership and will feature what the manufacturer is referring to as ‘a new reference standard sound system.’ This will come in the form of an integrated soundbar designed in conjunction with Bowers & Wilkins.

The TV’s speaker incorporates four drivers in an enclosure covered by acoustically-transparent cloth from Danish specialist Kvadrat – well known for its collaborations with Bang & Olfusen.

Other details are currently scarce, but the 903 – sitting above the 803 – will incorporate similar OLED technology to its other 2018 OLED TV line-up, featuring updated anti-reflective coatings designed to improve black reproduction, three-sided Ambilight and a brighter light output peaking at a 1000 Nits.

Both the 803 and 903 4K OLED TVs run from Philips’ 2nd generation ‘P5 picture perfect processing engine’ which the manufacturer claims it has put special efforts into improving SDR video quality with.

The Nougat Android TV OS platform will also be incorporated, with an upgrade to Android O bringing with it Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice support in the near future.

The TV is expected to be officially launched at IFA 2018 in Berlin at the close of this month, but Philips has already picked up an award from the folks over at EISA (Expert Imaging and Sound Association) for its efforts with the 903.

Watch (or listen to) this space to see how B&W knowledge makes a difference to the TVs performance. The 903 will be released by Philips October in 2018.
