Philips has introduced its latest OLED 4K model, the OLED 9002, at a launch event yesterday in Madrid.
Available in a 55-in model like its predecessor, the 901F (featuring an integrated soundbar), the manufacturer’s latest flagship (the OLED 55POS9002) offers three-sided Ambilight and Android TV support, in addition to meeting 4K UHD specifications.
The TV also incorporates Philips’s newest P5 picture processing engine. The engine features less chips for faster data transfer and improved control, as well as more noise reduction without blurring via an upgraded DNR system and Mosquito NR function, according to Philips.
The TV reportedly has a 99% DCI-P3 wide colour gamut, in addition to peak-light performance of around 750 nits. The final product will feature a Freeview Play tuner and a central stand.
At the event, Philips also unveiled its 7502 4K HDR LCD range, featuring the P5 picture processing engine, a 400Nit light output and an integrated 45W amplifier for a soundbar.
The 9002 and 7502 TVs incorporate smart functionality controlled by the Android operating system, and a Quad-core processor. Philips stated that the newest OLED or LED LCD TV models will not provide Dolby Vision HDR support.
The OLED 9002 is expected to be released in summer 2017. Existing 2016 Philips HDR TVs will be update with HLG support later in the year via an OS update.
Philips also announced that it is currently working on bringing an “8 series” Quantum Dot LED LCD TV line to market, expected to be unveiled at IFA in September.
