Samsung unboxes screens, monitors & audio 2021 lineup

Samsung Electronics has revealed its 2021 lineup of MICRO LED, Neo QLED, lifestyle TVs, monitors, and soundbars at its virtual Unbox & Discover event.

Recognising the increase in time spent at home, the company has indulged in new ways for consumers to get the most out of their screens from a working, learning, gaming, social and entertainment perspective.

MICRO LED

Announced at this year’s virtual CES, Samsung has launched its MICRO LED technology for home use. First introduced in the form of The Wall in 2018, the technology is now available in a traditional TV form factor.

Available in 110” and 99” sizes globally from the end of March, the new MICRO LED screen does not require professional assembly or installation. The out-of-the-box solution will also be available in 88” size later this year, and a 76” size is on the future roadmap.

A feature of the MICRO LED screen allows it to become four screens in one using 4Vue (Quad View). It allows users to watch four different sources of content simultaneously, such as sports games, live feed from a security camera, or streaming a walkthrough while playing a video game.

Samsung Neo QLED

Also introduced at CES 2021 is Samsung’s Neo QLED TV line, designed to enhance the viewing experience. Powered by Samsung’s Neo Quantum Processor, the screen uses Quantum Mini LEDS which are 1/40th of the size of conventional LEDs, allowing for ultra-fine light control to give deeper blacks and brighter lights.

Ideal for any type of viewing, the Samsung Neo QLED also offers a level up in gaming, with the company announcing it is the Official TV Partner of Xbox Series X in the US and Canada. Renewing their multiyear agreement, both Samsung and Xbox will continue their work together to bring premium gaming experiences. The Samsung Neo QLED and QLED presents 4K resolutions, 120 frames per second, and a low 5.8ms response time.

To further optimise the gaming experience on the Samsung Neo QLED and QLED lines, Samsung has also partnered with AMD to develop the first TV with Freesync Premium Pro support for both PC and console games.

Samsung’s new Game Bar helps gamers quickly monitor critical aspects of play, and it can be used to access Samsung’s Super Ultrawide Gameview, which brings ultra-wide aspect ratios to the TV, traditionally only available on gaming specific monitors.

Samsung Neo QLED’s 8K models, the QN800A and QN900A, will be available in 65”, 75”, and 85”. The 4K models, the QN90A and QN85A, will reflect an even wider selection starting at 50”.

Lifestyle models

The Lifestyle TV category is designed to reflect a person’s style while catering to their ever-changing needs inside and outside the home.

The Frame has had an update for 2021, allowing owners to customise the frame itself. It now features new mounting options like the Slim Fit Wall Mount, as well as five bezel options with more from third-party providers.

This year sees The Frame even slimmer too, at just 24.9mm thick, which is about the same depth as an actual picture frame.

In terms of content for The Frame, Samsung has revealed new partnerships in the Art Store with NAVA Contemporary and Etsy. The company has also increased photo storage space from 500MB in 2020 to 6GB in 2021, allowing users to store up to 1,200 photos in UHD quality.

My Shelf is a new way to display The Frame. Launching globally later this year, My Shelf allows customers to create a tailored wall with personal touches to complement the screen and décor. My Shelf can be attached to the 55”, 65”, and 75” Frame sizes and will be available in beige, white, brown or black.

Last year, Samsung launched The Terrace, its first weather-resistant, IP55-rated outdoor TV. Available in 55” and 65”, this year the company is also releasing a new 75” Full Sun model.

Smart Monitor

Recognising the changing requirements of homeowners, Samsung has created its first “do-it-all” monitor. The Smart Monitor allows homeowners to get the most out of working while also having an entertainment option.

Compatible with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wireless DeX, and Apple AirPlay 2, the Smart Monitor allows consumers to work from anywhere without needing to connect to another device such as PC or laptop. AirPlay 2 allows users to stream, control, and share content directly from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the monitor. It also turns into a smart TV platform when work is over.

Odyssey G9

Last year saw the release of the Odyssey G9 gaming monitor. This year, Samsung has added a Quantum MiniLED display to the lineup with premium gaming features. The 1000R screen curvature and Quantum MiniLED display technology gives gamers a premium experience. The new G9 joins Samsung’s full lineup of curved and flat Odyssey gaming monitors.

Q Series

To match its innovative range of displays for 2021, Samsung has also announced its new Q Series Soundbar, which uses exclusive Q-Symphony technology, syncing audio from the Samsung TV to deliver enhanced 3D sound. The soundbar can also analyse its surroundings to optimise the sound.

Also in the Q-Series in the new Q950A with 11.1.4 channel audio. Its new Bass Boost feature allows users to add more bass with a single click. Tap Sound makes it easy for users to listen to music through the speakers, simply by tapping a device to the soundbar. It also works with multiple voice assistants, including Amazon Alexa and Bixby.
