LG unveils new 136-inch LED display with Active Matrix Technology and Dolby Vision

LG has unveiled a new type of display technology that enables control of every individual pixel.

The LG MAGNIT Active Micro LED model incorporates Active Matrix technology, which allows each pixel to generate its own light. The individual pixel control is a break from the conventional Passive Matrix systems that control pixels by rows and columns.

With a 136-inch screen, 4K resolution and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, the model represents LG’s premium MAGNIT lineup. It’s powered by the company’s latest α9 AI Processor 6th Generation, refining faces, objects, text and backgrounds with the benefit of a 144Hz high refresh rate.

Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, said: “[The model’s] impressive size spans an entire wall in lifelike colours and stunning high-definition detail.

“It transforms a home into a true theatre, delivering an unmatched cinematic experience.”

LG’s proprietary surface treatment technology deepens black levels to minimise the impact of external lighting, supported by a flicker-free screen and modular design that reduces gaps between panels. It features Dolby Vision and has received Colour Consistency Wide Viewing certification from testing provider, TÜV Rheinland.

The display also supports enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) for lossless playback of high-quality audio, with built-in speakers on each side that deliver 4.2-channel surround sound.

LG’s proprietary smart TV platform, webOS, allows users to effortlessly enjoy LG Channels and its free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service, as well as other OTT and gaming content.

Additionally, users can subscribe to the LG Gallery+ to decorate their living spaces with visual content like famous paintings or game illustrations. The display supports AirPlay 2 and Miracast for screen sharing with iOS and Android OS devices.

The LG MAGNIT Active Micro LED will be available from October 21 in Korea before releasing into global markets thereafter. LG is said to have plans to develop it into a fully scalable video wall solution.
