A busy Samsung booth at CEDIA 2018 has featured recent launches including The Wall, its Harman co-engineered Dolby Atmos soundbars and two 8K QLED TVs.
The entire QLED range may have been shipped out to San Diego for CEDIA, but a lot of attention was on its 8K models – the flagship 85-in Q900FN 8K TV lined up against a 75-in model only for release in Asia and European markets. Labelled as the “pinnacle of the 2018 QLED line” by Samsung, the Q900’s AI works to upscale any content to 8K-quality as well as supporting Q HDR 8K (up to 4,000 nits of brightness). The QLED TVs also feature ‘Ambient Mode’ – essentially, allowing the TV to adopt a chameleon-like nature and blend in with its surroundings, in addition to full array local dimming and voice control.
The Wall created another hotspot on the stand – the performance of “world’s first” large-format, microLED modular screen being a key talking point. Samsung confirmed that configurations of 4K 146-in diagonal and 8K 292-in diagonal are supported.
Being pitched as the “premium” alternative to others on the showfloor, the recently introduced Dolby Atmos Samsung/Harman Kardon soundbars also made a showing. The HW-N950 packs in four speakers and two wireless surrounds to deliver a 7.1.4 experience (+ wireless sub and rear-firing unit), whilst the HW-N850 acts as the 950 light option, instead with 5.1.2 performance.
Finally, Samsung dedicated a specific area to show different uses of ‘The Frame (2018)’ – although not quite stretched to the 800 artworks available to showcased in the home, outside of the traditional TV experience. The Frame is being promoted as an "additional revenue source for installers pitching existing customers on new projects in the bedroom, or any other space where a traditional TV might look out of place.” The 2018 updated model sees the addition of a higher quality display, a single-cable One Invisible Connection and a re-imagined interface in the Art Store for browsing and selecting art.
“At this year’s CEDIA, Samsung is showcasing its business portfolio advancements with display technology specifically designed to bring an added layer of luxury to the home,” said Ron Gazzola, SVP and GM at Samsung Electronics America.
“Innovative products such as The Wall highlight how Samsung is creating technology for the ultimate in design, customisation and reliability for the home.”
