First seen by exclusive visitors to CES 2018, Optoma just dropped the UHD51A in the US, a 4K projector with a difference, at a more than reasonable price point.
We may be accustomed to using our voice to control our lights, music and more recently, TVs – but Optoma just broke new ground in the home tech industry when it comes to how we use voice.
Its 2,400 lumen UHD51A 4K projector comes with Alexa technology built in – making it the first of its kind in the marketplace. Priced at US $1,699, Optoma clearly thinks the UHD51A can challenge the 4K TVs currently available, and the show-off factor of using Alexa to control what people are watching with their projector.
An accompanying SmartProjection for Smart Home skill means owners of the projector can even create their desired environment by a controlling any lighting devices, projection screens, smart speakers in conjunction with starting their projector (as well as controlling volume and managing sources).
Other specs outlined include the use of a 0.47-in Texas Instruments 4K UHD DLP chipset reportedly capable of throwing at least 140-ins and 8.3 million distinct pixels. The UHD51A also has a throw ratio of 1.21 to 1.59, 1.3x optical zoom and 15% vertical lens shift, in addition to 500,000:1 contrast and HDR10 with Rec.2020/DCI-P3 color gamut support.
An built-in Android 4K/UHD HDR media player also features, alongside two 5W integrated speakers, two HDMI 2.0 inputs with HDCP 2.2 support and a USB ports for Alexa WiFi adapters, media playback and wireless screen mirroring.
Although just a US launch for now, we have been informed that Optoma's voice-enabled UHD51A projector will be heading for European shores sometime this summer (likely under a different model name).
