Sonos introduces a new era of home speakers

Sonos has launched the Era 300 and Era 100 speakers, with the Era 100 replacing the Sonos One.

Sonos Era 300

The new Era 300 speaker brings spatial audio to Sonos’ portfolio.

With an hourglass figure and six powerful drivers, sound is directed left, right, forwards and upwards to deliver a spacious stereo soundstage and a Dolby Atmos experience.

The speaker features six class D digital amplifiers which have been precision tuned. Four tweeters are used for playback of high mid-range frequencies. The forward-firing mid tweeter provides a smooth centre image while two side-firing mid tweeters create stereo separation. Loaded into a directional horn, the upward firing tweeter reflects sound off the ceiling when playing Dolby Atmos content. Two woofers maximise low-end output and are angled left and right to support stereo playback.

A far-field microphone array is included and uses advanced beamforming and multichannel echo cancellation for quick and accurate voice control and Trueplay tuning. The mic switch can also be disconnected.

During its development, award-winning musicians, producers and engineers helped to fine-tune the sound experience. Era 300 features Trueplay technology to optimise the sound for each space it is placed. Trueplay is now available for both iOS and Android with the release of the Era range.

Designed for serviceability, Era 300 reduces the use of adhesives, replacing with screws. The speaker is also made with post-consumer recycled plastic, packaged in 100% sustainably sourced paper, and engineered to reduce power consumption, making it Sonos’ most sustainable speaker yet.

Era 300 allows streaming via Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth device pairing. Wi-Fi connectivity also allows users to stream the highest-quality audio formats, including Dolby Atmos from anywhere in the home without interruptions from calls or notifications. Users can also connect an external audio source, such as a turntable using the Sonos Line-In Adapter. Control of music can take place through Sonos Voice Control, the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2 and the new intuitive UI.

A new volume slider has also been introduced with the Era 300 to make volume controls easier.

Introducing a spatial audio experience, Era 300 speakers can be used with Arc or Beam (Gen 2) for a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos sound experience.

The Era 300 is available in black or white from 28 March for £449 / €499 / $449.

Sonos Era 100

Replacing the Sonos One which will now be discontinued, Sonos Era 100 features updated acoustics and new levels of connectivity.

A second tweeter has been added for more detailed audio and to allow stereo sound from a single speaker, while a 25% larger midwoofer provides deeper bass. The two angled tweeters and custom waveguides amplify dispersion of soundwaves to create a wider soundstage.

Era 100 features three precision-tuned class D digital amplifiers and two angled tweeters to create a crisp and accurate high frequency response and stereo separation.

Its far-field microphone array uses advanced beamforming and multichannel echo cancellation for quick and accurate voice control and Trueplay tuning. The mic can be disconnected.

Trueplay software is included on the Era 100, measuring the acoustics of the room then fine-tuning the EQ to ensure it sounds its best in any space. Trueplay is now compatible with both iOS and Android.

Like Era 300, the Era 100 has Wi-Fi connectivity to allow users to stream the highest-quality audio formats, including lossless, from anywhere in the home without any interruptions. Bluetooth devices can also be paired with the press of a button.

Control options include Sonos Voice Control, the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2, and the new intuitive touch controls, including the volume slider.

Turntables and other audio sources can be connected to the Era 100 via an auxiliary cable and the Sonos Line-In Adapter.

Also available starting 28 March, the Era 100 comes in black or white and is priced at £249 / €279 / $249.
