Onkyo intros TX-NR686 7.2-channel receiver

Onkyo has unveiled the TX-NR686, its latest receiver offering the ability to enjoy multi-room and hi-res music, and 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support.

The THX-certified receiver incorporates DTS Neural:X and Dolby Surround upmixers to create virtual 3D sound from legacy DTS or Dolby formats, as well as incorporating native support.

The 165W model has six HDCP 2.2-compatible HDMI inputs for 4K and HDR (including HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision), plus an extra socket.

Users simply use the Onkyo Controller app to access streaming service such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer and Tidal. Not a customer? No worries, the TX-NR686 also supports multi-room DTS Play-Fi and Onkyo- and Pioneer-developed FlareConnect streaming platforms, in addition Google Chromecast, AirPlay and good old Bluetooth. Feeling retro? A phono stage is included for those looking to connect to their record player.

Audio can also be enjoyed in another room too, with support on hand for another zone.

Playback (5.6MHz DSD and 24bit/192kHz PCM files over network/USB) additionally features Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry, which Onkyo says is designed to remove noise during hi-res playback.

The Onkyo TX-NR686 will be available from April onwards.
